This week, it’s Florence or L’agitée du bocal that lends itself to the interview. And Florence, she is not yet a tissue handkerchief user. She is opening her Vrac grocery store in the Oise and will be selling ernest & lulu handkerchiefs, so we’ll have to take the plunge! 😉
In a few words who are you and what do you do for a living?
My name is Florence aka L’agitée du bocal. An atypical career going from the Air Force to the manager of an organic store to the head of advertising in an aero magazine. It was at the dawn of my 32th birthday that I finally had the courage to realize my dream: to open my bulk grocery store in the Oise. Scheduled for October 2020!
What was your trigger to turn to a zero waste approach?
I was working in an organic store when I met my roommate at the time, very involved in various associations including Sea Shepherd. I had the chance to participate in one of their mission as a crew, Mare Nostrum. I cried when I saw the ton of garbage in the Vieux Port in Marseille. It was 2015, I still didn’t forget the pictures and I thought I was going to do my part, like the hummingbird.
What daily actions make you reduce your impact on the environment the most?
I make all of my homemade cleaning products with just four ingredients: white vinegar, baking soda, black soap and Marseille soap. For a maniac like me, it might as well have reduced my ecological footprint! Oriculi, wipes, cup, solid soap and shampoo, no plastic bottle at home, bulk… The base! For me, it’s a whole.
Let’s talk about handkerchief, because here, it’s kind of our specialty! Do you use handkerchiefs?
I used it when I was a kid / teenager, I quit (ouch ouch don’t type!) And I’m not proud of it because casually, we use a lot of it!
What would motivate you to choose handkerchiefs?
Be reassured about hygiene and practicality in everyday life.
What do you think of ernest & lulu organic handkerchiefs? Ready to take the plunge?
The fabrics are superb and I admit that it is class to bring out these kind of tissues when you have a cold! With the extra cover … Ready to take the plunge for next winter!
Any advice or a simple trick to help our readers reduce their waste too?
Go there little by little, not wanting to transform everything at once at the risk of becoming discouraged or pointing the way to those around you (avoid throwing away your toilet paper directly for reusable wipes, your or your half may not like it!). Start with the bathroom, the simplest and the most motivating!
